The light is beautiful, both in Gene Koehler's studio and out in the mountains where he concentrates on his fly fishing skills. In the studio, Gene is a collector of bears for catalogs, and dogs for company. His two energetic Chesapeakes often accompany him to the studio and Gene keeps up with them pretty well.
A graduate of the prestigious Art Institute of Philadelphia, Gene assisted, in his words, “great photographers” for a number of years prior to opening his own studio. He specializes in studio and location sets photographing beautiful crystal products, sophisticated porcelains, hi-tech appliances and delicate ribbons. That said, Gene has recently started a personal project involving antique motorbikes.
“I've never been a car lover, I'm not sure why. But motorcycles are another story. At about 9 years of age, I started riding dirt bikes, as a younger man I road a sportbike, you know the kind that looks like a rocket. I don't need to go that fast any more. Thank God.”
“Food would be my favorite thing to shoot,” he says with a smile, “it takes a group effort, but the end result is worth it. If the image makes you hungry you know you did a great job.” The studio is digital and is also equipped with a small but capable prep kitchen and client meeting area. « return to portfolio page
